Meet the Expert: Marla Scarola, Senior Vice President, Regulatory Process Management

What do you do at ProPharma Group?

As the Vice President of Regulatory Program Management, I oversee some of our larger projects. For many of our clients, they have little to no in-house regulatory staff, so we become the go-to for any and all FDA regulatory needs. I coordinate our internal team to provide technical guidance, prepare deliverables, handle FDA submissions. Basically, if a client has a regulatory need, I figure out how we can deliver.

What is one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that has most helped you?

When it comes to Regulatory Affairs, there is rarely one right answer. It is our job to understand the grey areas and help clients decide on the approach that best aligns with their overall objectives.

What do you like best about working with clients?  

I enjoy investing in relationships with clients. If we take time to understand their specific needs and working style, we can then tailor our approach in our communications, deliverables, etc. to meet those needs. The goal is that the client sees us as trusted advisors and feels confident that we are fully committed to their success.

Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work.

I live in Blacksburg, VA, home of the Virginia Tech Hokies, with my husband, our two daughters, one dog, two guinea pigs, and four fish. I’m an avid CrossFitter and enjoy competing in local and online events. My favorite vacation destination is either in the mountains for snowboarding or at the beach for relaxing.

How do you support ProPharma Group’s mission and higher purpose of improving the health and safety of patients?

I instill a drive for excellence. Striving for perfection in the work we do not only holds us accountable to one another and our clients, it also instill a sense of pride in the work we do. Any task, no matter how small, contributes to the overall goal of serving our clients and enabling them to bring medicines to market.
