Meet the Expert: David Lough, Senior Pharmacovigilance Consultant
What do you do at ProPharma? How does your role support improving the health and safety of patients?
I am the Subject Matter Expert for the Pharmacovigilance System Master File (PSMF) and work with the QPPV Office team to create, coordinate and update the client PSMFs. As the PSMF describes the entire PV system, the role allows me to work cross functionally with most of the departments at ProPharma, as well as face to face with our clients. I also act as the UK National Contact Person for ProPharma clients. All of this contributes to the efficient running of our client’s PV systems, to effectively monitor the safety profile of their marketed medicines.
What do you like best about working with clients?
I really enjoy solving problems and helping make our clients’ working lives easier. The UK’s currently evolving legislative landscape makes it particularly rewarding to assist ProPharma clients in ensuring their UK pharmacovigilance systems remain compliant.
What is one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that has most helped you?
One valuable lesson I’ve learned from my career is the critical importance of implementing a robust quality management system (QMS) and consistently utilising it. Although it may occasionally seem time-consuming, the advantages of leveraging the QMS for ensuring continuous improvement within the PV system cannot be overstated.
Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work.
I am originally from Glasgow and live on the coast in Devon. I have two dogs, a labrador called Elsie and a Border Collie called Floss. I play Football for local side Fremington FC.
What’s one thing you’d like for potential clients to know about ProPharma?
The amount of expertise available throughout the company is incredible. No matter what niche issue a client has, there is always someone in the company who has experience in that area. The collaboration between the teams at ProPharma means no problem goes unsolved.
