Harvesters' mission is to feed hungry people today and work to end hunger tomorrow. To support this goal, our Overland Park, KS office is holding a food drive to collect more than 25 holiday meals for families in our area. We're collecting stuffing mix, sweet potatoes, green beans and other holiday favorites, then packing the completed meals into boxes prepared for delivery.
In Harvesters' 26-county service area, one in seven people is food insecure. Food insecurity means that a person or household may have food today, but does not know if there will be food tomorrow or enough food for everyone in the household. This means about 374,660 people in our area are food insecure and missing an estimated 65.6 million meals annually. In support of their mission, Harvesters serves 141,500 different people each month, 25% of whom are children.
There are many ways you can get involved with your local food bank to help end hunger in your area. Work to raise awareness about hunger in your hometown, and help by contributing non-perishable items at a local food drive or drop-off facility, host a virtual food drive, or donate to support your community food pantry. For more information on each of the ways to help, or for information about Harvesters, please visit their website and take action to help end hunger.
