In 2017, R&D investments in the pharmaceutical space reached more than $70 billion, with projected figures of over $200 billion by 2024. Pharma is one of the two sectors with semiconductors that are heavily reinvesting its revenue in research and development (15% to 20% on average). Considering the cost explosion of developing a new drug and bringing it to market, the return on investment is declining sharply, according to a Deloitte 2018 report. The golden days of blockbuster drugs are over.
